Our initial targeted community were: Rumah Kanak-kanak Kuching (Cheshire Home), SMK Jalan Arang and SJK Chung Hua Batu 4 ½. We hoped that our project – Cyber Library is a project that really benefits to our community, to encourage the reading culture and writing culture (Read More and Write More).
After few months of the discussion, finally come to the decision. The cyberkids had decided to go back to their former school, SJK Chung Hua Batu 4 ½.
Early in the morning (around 7.00 am), the cyberkids were gathered at the SJK Chung Hua Batu 4 ½. Everyone was so excited to conduct the CK@Community at there.
After meeting with the headmistress, she had brought us to the computer lab to do the preparation for the presentation. We needed to install the photostory and photoscape into the 60 computers in the computer lab. So all cyberkids cooperate to complete our first task – installing the software. After 1 hour, we had completed the task. Now, we were waiting for the pupils – 55 pupils from class 5 Merah. They are combination of Chinese, Iban and other races.
The pupils were lined up and entered to the computer lab slowly and organized. They’re so cute and polite.
First at all, Angeline and Lydia had introduced the Cyber Library to the pupils – the pupils were also given the opportunity to log on the Cyber Library and read the stories. They were enjoyed reading and recording the URL for future reading.
Our project is successful because this Cyber Library is a place for the pupils to read as the stories can be updated from time to time. They had the opportunity to surf the Cyber Library at ANYWHERE and ANYTIME.
After that, Edwina and Edmund were conducted the teaching of Photoscape. The students were told to compete among themselves to produce the best photos.
During the session, cyberkids were ready to assist the pupils to use the Photoscape software. And the pupils also helping among themselves. This was motivating us.
We had uploaded the products by the pupils in our portal. They were really talented.
The session was followed by the Photostory lesson. Qi Qi and Julie as tutor and the all the cyberkids assist the pupils to use the Photostory. Pupils enjoy the session very well.
We could not conduct the audacity session because we’re not provided the headphone.
Everything went smoothly and the activities end around 11 am. All cyberkids were rushing back to get ready for their schooling (They’re students from Evening Session).
As a conclusion, Cyberkids gave their full commitment on day. They carried out the activities well and the response from the primary school students was very good.
